Basic Class Requirements:
Participants will have workshop assignments as well as home assignments to complete. Please wear clothing in which you are comfortable exercising.

Master Class Requirements:
One copy of a new monologue on which you have not previously worked. Two copies of a two-person scene on which you have not worked. (Both pieces must be new and not previously committed to memory)
Basic Classes: June 4, 11, 18, and 25 / Master Classes: June 15, 22, and 29

Percy W. Thomas, Sc.D. / Basic Classes
Percy began his acting career in 1966 at the Arena Playhouse, Baltimore, Maryland in Ed Bullins play Clara’s Ole Man. He studied acting under Sam Wilson and Irvin Turner at the Arena Playhouse. Later he studied at the Mafundi Institute's under the tutelage of Roger E. Mosley. While studying at the Mafundi Institute, Percy landed a part in the film The River Niger directed by Krishna Shah starring James Earl Jones, Cicely Tyson, and Louis Gossett, Jr.
His career in the performing arts and teaching acting spans more than forty years of experience in theater, commercial television, and film. Percy has appeared in more than forty stage productions. He has played lead roles in: In the Wine Time, In New England Winter, Electronic Nigger, Wait Until Dark, Slow Dance on the Killing Ground, No Place to be Somebody, First Breeze of Summer, None to Call Him Father, Blues for Mr. Charlie (off Broadway), The Whipping Man. He is most fond of playing the role (Big Daddy) in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. His film credits include The Hitter, And Justice for All, F.I.S.T, and The River Niger.
Professor Vera J. Katz / Master Classes
Vera J. Katz, a professor emerita in the theatre arts department at Howard University, has taught acting and directing for 32 years. For the past 22 years, she has been a member of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. She has directed more than fifty productions, originally working with Joe Hyman, who produced the famed playwright-director-author, Moss Hart, on Broadway.
She has taught such notables as Debbie Allen, Anthony Anderson, Chadwick Boseman, Corey Hawkins, Taraji P. Henson, Isaiah Johnson, Jayme Lawson, Phylicia Rashad, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Fredericka Whitfield, Lynn Whitfield, Isaiah Washington, Cory Hawkins (Color of Purple), and Jeffrey Wright.
